About Department :

The Department of English and Foreign Languages was established on 5th September 2008. The Department of English and Foreign Languages is well-equipped with highly qualified and experienced staff and latest instructional technology. The Digital Language Lab with 40 consoles and latest language learning software, LCD Projector, visualizer, television, audio-visual support system facilitate teaching-learning process. The tribal students are highly responsive to these technological innovations. The Department is headed by Professor Krishna Singh. Dr. Abhilasha, Dr. Vipin Kumar Singh, Dr. Santosh Kumar Sonker and Gurujegan are other faculty members who are actively engaged in teaching, research and publication.

 


Department offers BA Honours, MA and PhD courses. Post Graduate Degree Programme in Women Studies and Post Graduate Degree Programme in Tribal and Folk Literature are also proposed by the recent BoS. The Department is conscious to materialise the IGNTU spirit enshrined in its Act and statutes. Quality education, research orientation, employability, personality development etc are the shortlisted areas to be handled dexterously through course material, design of the curriculum, literary and cultural activities, English Club, programmes on personality development, seminar, PPTs, which are customised to further tribal-centric studies and create a distinct identity from traditional universities.


The Department has already organised a National Seminar on ‘Postcolonial Subaltern Studies and Tribal Literature’ (Feb 27-28, 2012) and a book based on the seminar presentation containing fifty papers has been edited by Prof. Krishna Singh which is to be published by Authors Press, New Delhi. In BA (Hon’s) V Semester-VI Paper: Tribal Literature, MA III & IV Semester-Paper: XII & XV deal with Tribal Literature; in BA VI Semester, MA II & IV Semester Dissertation is mandatory along with it PhD research, the Department intends to focus on tribal related literary and cultural issues.
