Cell for Differently Abled Persons (PWD), IGNTU

As per UGC XII plan guidelines, Differently Abled Person Cell (PWD) of IGNTU was established on 29th Sep, 2015 to address the issues related to the Persons with Disabilities. “Disability is the consequence of an impairment that may be physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, developmental, or some combination of these. A disability may be present from birth, or occur during a person's lifetime”. The main aim of the Cell is to help empower and equalize the persons with disabilities to those with normal students. The Cell ensures full participation of physically disabled students in the academic, intellectual, social and cultural life of the University. The community includes physically challenged (PC/PH), subsidiary orthopedically challenged (OC/OH), visually challenged (VC/VH) and hearing challenged (HC/HH) persons.


Aims & Objectives:


1. To provide equal educational opportunities to differently abled persons in higher education.
2. To create awareness among the functionaries of higher education about the specific educational needs of differently abled persons.
3. To equip the University with the facilities to provide easy access to differently abled persons in the classrooms, laboratories, hostels, toilets, buildings, etc.
4. To provide special devices to the University that will augment the learning experinces of differently abled persons.
5. To monitor the implementation of all existing and future legislation and policies, which are pertaining to higher education of differently abled persons.
6. To provide counseling to differently-abled individuals in the University for better learning support.
7. To provide guidance to avail various fellowships / scholarships/jobs of different agencies.
8. To encourage the University to start such type of courses through which differently abled persons are benefitted specially.
9. As per the UGC guidelines, promote Teacher Preparation in Special Education (TEPSE), Higher Education for Persons with Special Needs (Differently-Abled Persons) (HEPSN) and Visually Handicapped Teachers (VHT) schemes.
10. To provide information to the University authority about the Guidelines of the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India for conducting written examination for Persons with Disabilities.


Categories of the Disability:

As per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission, New Delhi and the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, the "Disability" is classified in following categories:

1. Blindness (VH-B)
2. Low vision (VH-LV)
3. Leprosy-cured (LC)
4. Hearing impairment (HI)
5. Loco motor disability (OH, CP)
6. Mental retardation (MR)
7. Mental illness (MI)
